Primitive tribes ( Kurumba)

The Primitive tribe, also known as the Kurumba, is a Scheduled tribe Adivasi (pattika vargam ) residing in Attapadi. They have a distinctive way of life, relying solely on forest resources and living in perfect harmony with nature. Unlike the Irula and Muduka tribes, who have frequent contact with civilization, the Kurumba rarely venture outside of the forest. Their livelihood is sustained by the forest and its resources. The majority of the Kurumba reside in 19 villages, including Anavai, Katukmanna, Tadikund, and Tuduki, located near Silent Valley in Attapadi. They generate income by selling forest products through the Kurumba Tribal Cooperative Society, which was established in 1975 and is only two years away from celebrating its Golden Jubilee.
